Ashmore State School is a co-educational
P - 7 school located on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Established
in 1978 and providing a physical and social setting which is safe,
well-organized and caring, in 2003, Ashmore celebrated 25 years of
productive partnership with its families and the delivery of quality
State education to the community. As principal I am extremely proud of
the high standard that Ashmore continues to espouse in the pursuit of
academic, cultural, social and sporting excellence. The committed
Ashmore Staff believe in building a positive ethos, which focuses on
the values of respect, acceptance, inclusion and a sense of belonging.
Ashmore has built a strong sense of community around the concept of
QUALITY – quality relationships enhance quality teaching and
learning in a quality environment. One of our goals has been to
establish a Culture of Learning
throughout the school. In 2002, Ashmore received a national Literacy
Award in recognition of the school’s literacy practices in the early
years of schooling.
In
2003,
Year 7 students were recognised with a National Silver Award for and
eco-online challenge called “Murder Under the Microscope” which
showcased their Science, Maths, Technology and Communication skills.
Diverse academic, sporting and cultural opportunities such as
Challenge Days with local high schools, Business Enterprise Studies,
Chess Tuition, Public Speaking, French, Peer Mediation, Auskick,
Robotics and Micro Processors Project, C.R.E.S.T Science awards and
Golf demonstrate the dynamic smorgasboard of programs available to
students, as well as a balance and connected curriculum in the Key
Learning Areas.
The
award-winning choral and instrumental music programs always evoke a
great sense of pride and creative challenge. With our entry into
“Wakakirri” – a story/dance performing arts event - the students
performed in the Queensland Grand Final at the Brisbane Convention
Centre. A wonderful achievement for a first time entry.
With
an active P & C Association and Student Forum, all stakeholders
are encouraged to have a voice in the strategic direction of the
school, volunteering in classrooms, and participation in early
literacy interventions or as Year level parent reps.
